Entry: UEFA: Villareal-Egaleo Wednesday, December 15, 2004

Avg. Odds: 1.20-5.15-10.65

GROUP D
Middlesbrough.. 6 Pts
Partizan.......... 5 Pts
Villareal........... 5 Pts
Lazio.............. 3 Pts*
Egaleo............ 1 Pt

*Lazio has played all of their 4 matches in the Group.

There is no doubt on who is the clear favorite in this match. Villareal is a much better team than Egaleo. As you can see by the standings, qualification has already been decide: Middlesbrough, Partizan and Villareal go through to the next stage. What remains to be seen is the final standing, which will decide the group of teams that each team will pick their opponent from.
The team which will finish 2nd in the Group will pick one of the teams who were disqualified from the Champions League. There are rumors, like the ones that you have already read about in numerous forums and sites, even in the newspapers, that Villareal may try to avoid that 2nd place.
If that is indeed the case, how could they do it:

*If Middlesbrough or Partizan wins in the other match, then Villareal should lose to Egaleo in order to avoid the 2nd place.
*If the match Middlesbrough-Partizan ends in a draw, then Villareal should not win over Egaleo (X or 2) in order to avoid the 2nd place.
*If Villareal wins and reaches 8 points, then in order to avoid the 2nd place they would have to wish that the match Middlesbrough-Partizan will end in a draw.

The above is nothing more than a scenario, based on the fact that Villareal will try to choose their opponent. However, facing a team from the Champions League would not mean a disaster. As a matter of fact, it may prove better for them. It depends on how high you rate the teams and the way that Villareal looks upon the situation.

Egaleo has traveled to Spain, without leaving players behind. However, coach De Mol will most likely rest some regular players ahead of the match against Olympiakos for the Greek League.
According to the information that I have, the players who are to be replaced from the starting line-up, will be: Defenders Alexopoulos, Edusei and midfielders Barkoglou, Manousakis. If they are the only ones, then according to my opinion the biggest problem will be in the defense. Because I believe that in the midfield, Egaleo has the alternative solutions to field a strong line.

Just for the value of it (and taking into consideration the scenario mentioned above), I will go for the X2 with the odds offered by Unibet.

Villareal-Egaleo: 2 @ 14.00 @ Unibet (1/10)
Villareal-Egaleo: X @ 5.75 @ Unibet (2/10)
